Introducing Myself


My name is Jacob Kouzminski. I was born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia and currently live in Warrington, PA. I attended Central Bucks South high school. My parents both originated from Russia and moved to America in their twenties. I never knew any English up until about five or six years old and eventually taught myself throughout the years. Most of my relatives live in Russia and Europe. I used to visit St. Petersburg in Russia when I was younger every Summer where my dad lives. There isn’t a whole lot about myself. I am pretty outgoing and enjoy traveling to other states. For the past two years, I’ve been working at GNC and have been reselling sneakers as a part time gig. Also, I am attending school full time to get my master’s in business administration. My plan for next year is to also begin a minor in entrepreneurship.
I am a big sports fan; I mainly follow football and basketball with my favorite teams being the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Knicks. I grew up playing basketball and only played football for one year. Currently, I am weight training and still playing basketball recreationally.
My goal for my first year at Penn State is to average over a 3.5 GPA and develop better time management. I’m looking forward to meeting new people and developing good relationships with all of my professors.

PB1A Sale Signs

When thinking of what a genre is, it is a lot more than just a peculiar movie type—such as comedy and drama. Genres can be anything that is textually seen. Though there are varieties of genres, one genre that I am familiar with are ‘Sale Signs and Advertisements’. My familiarity with them comes from my job experience at GNC. I work there as a sales associate and we often have weekend sales consisting of BOGO50, BOGO80, and even sometimes BOGOFREE deals. But, what makes an advertisement and a sale sign, an advertisement and a sale sign? An advertisement or a sale sign is a genre because of its features and conventions. When you look at a GNC sale sign, you’ll notice that that there are some with just “SUPER SALE” written and then there are specific signs that would say “BUY 1 AT REGULAR PRICE GET 1 50% OFF or BUY 1 AT REGULAR PRICE GET 1 UP TO 80% OFF”. Annotation Strategies

8/23 When I am annotating, I am taking in the information that’s being written and try to relate to it to the best of my ability. In many of my annotations, you would notice how I tend to write “relatable” or even answer the question or statement that’s written. There are different ways to annotate, some are by agreeing or disagreeing with the statements or even questioning what’s written. I also tend to highlight and underline certain lines and phrases that stick out to me. Highlighting and underlining questions and phrases I’m not fully aware of helps understand and put the writing piece together. Annotations definitely help reading any piece much easier. How do other people annotate? Mostly everyone will highlight things that they don’t know.
